This policy explains how verbmelo uses cookies and similar storage technologies on verbmelo.com: which categories are involved, how your choice is recorded in the browser and how it can be changed later.
1. About cookies and browser storage
Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device so that it can tell your browser apart from others and keep settings between visits. Browsers also offer a local storage area that holds entries in a similar way; whenever this policy speaks of cookies, such entries are included.
2. Categories used on this website
Only a few entries are needed to run this website, which presents information and contact details rather than an account area or an online shop. Strictly necessary entries keep the pages usable and secure and include any value that remembers a decision about a cookie notice; for them no consent is required under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).
One of these entries is a cookie set by the server that delivers the pages. It holds a random identifier, no name or contact details, and lets the server recognise a browser that comes back, so that one visit is handled as one and automated misuse can be turned away. It is renewed with each visit and expires 30 days after the last one.
3. Tracking, profiling and data protection
This website carries no advertising or retargeting cookies and no cross-site tracking of any kind, and we do not create visitor profiles. Entries that can be linked to a person are personal data: the privacy policy of verbmelo sets out the purposes, the legal grounds, the retention and your rights.
4. How your choice is recorded
Where a cookie notice is displayed, the only thing it saves is your answer, agreement or refusal, as one value in the local storage of the browser you are using (localStorage), after which it stays hidden. It appears again in a different browser or on a different device, and wherever storage is blocked.
5. Storage periods
Cookies either last for the current session and are discarded when the browser is closed, or they remain for a limited period so that a setting is still known on a later visit. A value saved by a cookie notice is given no expiry date and stays in the browser until it is deleted there.
6. Changing your choice later
Consent given earlier can be withdrawn at any time, as easily as it was given: clear the data this website has stored in your browser and open a page again, so the saved answer is gone and, where a notice is shown, you can decide once more. Independently of that, every common browser offers settings for cookies and site data, where stored entries can be inspected or deleted.
7. Content embedded from other providers
At present no content from other providers with cookies of its own is built into this website. Should a map or a video be embedded in future, its provider may store information on your device as soon as it is shown, and this page would be changed before that happens.
8. Updates to this policy and questions
We review this policy when the website changes, when new functions are added or when the rules develop; only the version on this page applies, and the date at the top shows its last revision. Questions can be sent to verbmelo at [email protected] or asked by telephone on 01962 840317.
